The exhibition entitled Sparks and Crackles in My World features the works of three emerging Iranian female artists, Fatemeh Attaran Iraj, Mahtab Abdolmaleki, and Mona Rahnemay Helali, who reside and work in Iran. These artists employ videos and their personal materials to represent their time, everyday experiences, and observations. This form of expression captures transitory moments while also serving as a reflection of society and its current condition. The videos on display provide insight into the truth of contemporary society, particularly in Iran, with an emphasis on globalization and women's issues.

The exhibited videos and the works in progress serve as a medium for documenting and collecting social moments and as an introduction to contemporary video art in Iran that can be exhibited in Europe and other countries. The selection of artists for this exhibition was conducted through the From Idea to Exhibition workshops organized by Aria Art Classes in Tehran, Iran. These workshops, led by artist Shahram Entekhabi, aid artists in creating artworks based on their skills and in collaboration with Entekhabi. The resulting videos form part of the Factory TT video art collection. The workshops not only facilitate the brainstorming of ideas but also the development of content and co-production and exhibition of artworks, leading to the enhancement of artists' skills. The selection of artists for this exhibition aims not only to showcase their work but also to introduce the possibilities of moving images and promote media-art processes. This is a crucial objective for Entekhabi and Salimian, who are well-versed in the early stages of feminist video art. They seek to address questions about gender maps and encourage artists' observations on social and historical issues.

Asieh Salimian, the project's curator, collaborates with Shahram Entekhabi to expand Factory TT's activities and productions related to the video collection. These productions are featured in exhibitions that focus on contemporary and video art. It is important to note that the works produced by the artists in this project relate to the reality of life in contemporary Iran, reflecting various themes in which women often appear as protagonists. The exhibition also highlights that egalitarian forces and the ubiquitous capitalist beauty industry pose a threat to everyone.

Installing any advertisment has legal persecution, 2022
Mona Rahnemay Helali
HD video, 07:05 min., color, sound (no dialogue)

In the thought-provoking video installation titled Installing any advertisment has legal persecution viewers are immersed in the performance of a female character navigating the bustling streets of Tabriz city and its surrounding natural landscapes. This character symbolizes the modern individual influenced by the relentless onslaught of advertisements. Carrying a collaged box filled with daily advertisements, she embodies the superficial and manufactured desires propagated by the capitalist system, offering a glimpse into the contemporary human experience.

Within this artwork, unsuspecting passers-by, engrossed in their thoughts and everyday routines, unexpectedly encounter an unfamiliar image. This encounter presents an opportunity for contemplation and intellectual stimulation, evoking diverse reactions from each audience member. As the character removes the box from her head, she grants herself the space to analyze her own conditions and needs, urging viewers to reflect on their own relationship with consumerism and societal pressures.

The work also highlights the detrimental consequences of bio-capitalism, where humanity witnesses the loss of nature, poetic language, and inspiring folklore. To evoke the essence of the local culture, the artwork incorporates the romantic melody of Sarai, a renowned folk song from the Azerbaijani-Iranian culture. Sarai symbolizes love and purity, which ultimately succumbs to the relentless waves of the river, embodying a sense of surrender rather than accepting cruelty. By juxtaposing the language and tone of today's advertisements with the inspiring and poetic language of the native and pristine nature, the artwork introduces an additional layer of contrast and reflection.

"Here is the Place of Your Advertisement" invites viewers to confront the pervasive influence of consumerism and reflect upon their own connection with nature, language, and cultural heritage. Through its thought-provoking imagery, unexpected encounters, and contrasting narratives, the artwork prompts viewers to challenge prevailing societal norms and contemplate the potential for personal and collective transformation.

Bahamestan, 2022
Fatemeh Attaran Iraj
Video (HD), 17:53 min, Farsi – (English subtitles), Color, Sound

Bahamestanis an art project that revolves around the concept of community and exploring it in local landscapes. In this effort, we delve deep into our surroundings and seek within ourselves what we often seek in distant places. Our main goal is to ensure visibility, to try to create a unique visual identity for small-scale productions in our city, to provide a platform for advertising.

Within our city, where big chain stores dominate the urban fabric with their vast capital, we are actively shifting our focus to supporting local businesses and resisting the pervasive influence of capitalism. We strongly believe that every community, with its distinctive inhabitants, has the inherent capacity to create its own path to sustainable living. Our work is rooted in a deep environmental awareness, values the preservation of our surroundings and actively opposes wasteful actions. Embracing the ethics of reuse, we are dedicated to incorporating discarded materials into our creative process and giving new life to forgotten objects.

An important aspect of our approach involves bridging the gap between the products we promote and their potential consumers. We aspire to invite people into the production process and allow them to see directly the origins and methods behind the items they are about to consume. By strengthening this connection, we hope to instill a sense of awareness and responsibility in the community and rethink the cultural and natural resources that are often neglected or separated over time.

Our goal is to strengthen the sense of belonging and rekindle the connection between culture, nature and ourselves. By actively engaging with the local landscape, supporting local businesses, and advocating sustainable practices, we strive to preserve the essence of our community and ensure that culture and the environment remain an integral part of our collective identity.

The Puzzle, 2022 (The Gaze Within: Exploring the Dynamics of Control)
Mahtab Abdolmaleki
Video (Full HD), 02:56 min, Farsi – (English subtitles), Color

The Puzzle delves into the intricate web of societal influence, examining how the perception and scrutiny of others shape our thoughts, emotions, beliefs, and actions. This profound interplay between individuals cultivates a range of experiences and behaviors, often serving as the surface manifestations of our inner cognitive processes. This artwork raises fundamental questions about our existence and purpose, challenging the notion of identity in relation to external forces. How much agency do we truly possess in the face of constant scrutiny? It is an ongoing exploration, an ever-evolving project that seeks to unravel the complexities of our interdependent existence.

Over the past year, I have embarked on a personal journey to confront these challenges head-on, seeking innovative approaches to understand and navigate the intricate dynamics of societal control. Simultaneously, I extend an invitation to others, inviting them to join me in this contemplative encounter, to explore the reciprocal nature of "The Gaze Within" and our gaze upon one another. Do these preconceived notions and predetermined societal templates disturb us, evoking anger, frustration, and unease? Or do they offer solace, granting us a sense of superiority over others? To delve deeper into this subject, I turned to social media, soliciting input from the audience, inquiring about the specific types of control exerted by others that perturbed them.

The responses received were remarkably similar, highlighting the universality of these experiences. This collective sharing of experiences serves as a catalyst for dialogue, fostering connections and a shared understanding of the pervasive nature of external control. Through this artwork, I aim to ignite conversations that prompt critical self-reflection and introspection, challenging us to reevaluate the boundaries and limits imposed by external influences.

The Puzzle serves as an immersive exploration into the multifaceted nature of our interconnected lives. By unraveling the intricacies of societal control, this artwork offers a platform for self-discovery and communal exchange, provoking contemplation on the nature of individual agency and the pervasive power of the gaze.
